Early Childhood Conference 2019 @ Suntec Singapore Convention Exhibition Centre

The annual Early Childhood Conference was held at Suntec Singapore Convention Exhibition Centre this year, from 13 September to 14 September 2019. On the first day of the event, we had the honor of receiving the Singapore Pre-school Accreditation Framework (SPARK) certification for our Little Footprints @ Yio Chu Kang centre. Apart from providing quality assurance, SPARK helps to provide recognition and support preschools to further enhance the administrative, management, teaching and learning processes. SPARK acts as a guide for our preschoolers and provides a benchmark for preschools to compare against.

In line with the theme “Beyond the Classroom: Take Learning Outdoors” this year, our centres from St.Anne’s and Punggol Beach had the opportunity to share a sustainability toolkit that we have collaborated with Preschool Market. You can find our educator’s toolkit on “Appreciating Our Heritage in Nature” here and “Sustainability Starts with Me!” toolkit here! Our teachers also showcased some upcycled projects and involved the children in making paper-copters. We also had the opportunity to meet President Halimah Yacob and Minister Desmond Lee.

Some of the projects showcased were our St.Anne’s centre’s upcycled pouch and Woodlands 551 centre’s musical instruments made from recycled materials.

By using a mixture of recycled and art materials such as foam, buttons and felt, the upcycled pouches were handmade by our little ones and were presented to residents of “Society For the Aged Sick”. This activity raised awareness on reducing waste by giving old materials a new life.

Meanwhile, our children at Woodlands 551 collected and explored with a variety of recycled materials such as milk cartons, water bottles, and toilet rolls. The recycled materials collected were then used to create shakers, which were used as instruments during our children’s dance activities. The collection and creative process helped children understand the uses and roles these recycled materials play in their day-to-day learning.

Thank you, everyone, who dropped by the booth and once again, a big thank you to our principal, teachers, and curriculum team for their hard work to maintain the quality in our children’s learning! Find out more about the activities our children participate in and how it enhances their learning journey with us. Sign up for a school tour¬†with us today!
